Lightning
in the Sky


Preface:


“Oklahoma, standing up to a tenth
grader? HA! What a riot! Was she crying? Like a baby? Ha! Good. We should take
her before she gets on her bike. What do you think? You’re in. Good. Bye.” This
was the phone call Luke gave Rick a couple minutes before Oklahoma was murdered
on August 26th, the first day of high school.





Chapter One:


When
Oklahoma’s widowed mother received the phone call, she was devastated. Her only
daughter out of 10 boys, had been murdered. And she had already lost her
husband to a bomb. She had to tell the boys, she decided, and Destiny,
Oklahoma’s best friend. She ran down the stairs in a hurry, her vision blurred
by tears.


When Destiny heard the news, she
burst into long, hard sobs and forgot about everything else. She ran from her
mother’s hard grasp and ran to Luke’s house. She threw a rock at the closest
window and it shattered. She kicked the door until Luke’s father opened it.
“WHERE THE HECK IS LUKE, HE MURDERED OKLAHOMA!” she demanded.





Chapter Two:


“What? My sweet boy didn’t do
anything. All he does is go to school, go to the range, and then come home.”
His father denied staring at Destiny in disbelief.


“I know he murdered her, and I know
that you watched that video he uploaded of him kicking her head and hitting her
with baseball bats.” Destiny replied with venom. “You know as well as I do that
he hated Oklahoma and me just because we were Christian.”


“Honey, God isn’t real.” He
announced pleased with the look in her eyes.


“I will get to the bottom of this.” She said turning around and
walking away.





Chapter Three:


Destiny didn’t get any sleep, but
still decided to look online for any information about Oklahoma’s murder. She
found the school article, which was written with actual facts from the police
officers, but it held no helpful information. So she decided to text Rick: Hey, Where’s Luke at? And
when he texted back: At
the rifle range, duh. She pulled her shoes on and ran for the
rifle range.


“Hey” Luke called out as he watched
Destiny run through the rows of rifles.


“Luke, what happened to Oklahoma?”
She asked sweetly.


“I don’t know, I think the police
killed her for being too Christian.” He joked.


“You are such a----“she broke off as
Luke slammed a rifle in the back of her head, leaving a nasty bruise. Destiny
got up like her father always told her to do, and slammed her hands on Luke’s
neck. “We can do this the easy way or you can die.” Luke kicked her shin and
started loading a rifle.





Chapter Four:


“It’s so cute that you think you can
get away with trying to hurt me.” He said aiming the rifle at Destiny’s heart.
“But it isn’t going to be easy, sweetheart.” Destiny got up and looked Luke in
the eye. A bystander screamed and ducked behind an office table, dialing 911.


“Kill me Luke; at least I’ll go to
Heaven.” She said softly as Luke pulled the trigger. Suddenly, as the gun shot
rang out Police swarmed the rifle range. Police men tackled Luke and cuffed his
hands. They shoved him to the ground and took the gun. Paramedics soon showed
up for Destiny, who was luckily still alive.





Chapter Five:


The doctors thought Destiny would die
that late August night, but she miraculously lived. A week later a funeral was
held for Oklahoma. Destiny attended it, but in a wheel chair, as she still
wasn’t healthy enough to walk on her own.





Chapter Six:


On September 28th, Deputy
Barcom, the head Sheriff, walked a handcuffed Luke into the visiting room. His
father was sitting at a table to the far left. Luke sat down across from his
dad and cussed out the sheriff. Deputy Barcom told him to quit and backed away
to the only door. Standing in front of it, he watched them chat for a bit, then
looked out the window. It was in the middle of a downpour. Lightning flashed
across the whole entire sky. Deputy Barcom looked down at his picture of
Oklahoma and Destiny. He stared at the lightning show that was still in the
sky. It looked just like them.
